Lindy Answers Your Questions

Hello My Lovelies
I hope you all having a great day. Last Night I asked my Followers to ask me questions so I can do a question and answer blog.
Below are just a few topics that were given. Hope my answers help.
Remember to stay Beautiful!

Question 1:
How do I do a Winged Liner? - Renee

Answer: The winged liner is super simple. You just need the right tools. I put a winged liner on every single day. The trick is scotch tape. Yes I said scotch tape. Cut a piece of tape about 5 inches long. Rip them into 2 equal pieces. Place them on the top of your hands. This is so the adhesive won't be as tacky on your face. Line them side by side with your lower lash line. I prefer a gel liner but you can use a liquid liner or pencil. Follow the picture below and you will have a fierce winged liner in no time.

Question 2:
How can I have the Perfect Lip? - Bailee & Shannin
Answer: To prevent the lipstick from feathering/smearing, use a perfectly sharpened lip pencil, line the center of the Cupid’s Bow and center of the bottom lip and corners (Below).
Connect the lines for a solid line then blend with a lip brush from the edge of your lips toward the center. Apply color, working from the outer corners to the center of the upper and lower lip then add a lip gloss and Voila!!

Question 3:
What steps do I take before and after applying makeup? - Christine, Kelley and Fallon
Answer: Before putting makeup on you have to make sure you are taking care of your skin. You should wash your face daily with a face scrub and apply moisturizer. I like to use the Target Brand apricot scrub, For moisturizer I use ELF Tinted moisturizer but you can use any moisturizing lotion.  Always put on a face primer & Eyeshadow primer. This will help keep your makeup on longer.  I like to use Smashbox photo finish face primer & Urban Decay Primer potion for the eyes.
After you apply your makeup I would spray my face with a setting spray. Urban Decay all nighter or ELF setting spray are great choices. If you are on a budget, believe it or not but Hair Spray works just as well. Just don't get it in your eyes! Try to use waterproof makeup. It will last longer!

Question 4: How do I contour? - Ashley
Answer: Contouring is your friend. It can be a task however. If you do not know how to contour correctly you will look like a hot mess. You need 3 things. Bronzer, Highlight and Blush. Below is a chart that can be helpful. There are millions of videos on YouTube on how to contour. Try to steer away from a dark bronzer if you are fair skinned.
I use the Kat von D Contour palette. There are instructions in the palette on how to contour.
Question 5: I am a male, How can I put makeup on without looking like a drag queen? - Gabriel
Answer: Go light on the makeup. All you really need is a nice matte liquid foundation. You can quirt some foundation on your hands and put on your face as if you are putting lotion on. Make sure you get your neck and ears. The size of a nickel would be enough. Spread it around and as long as you blend, no one will know you have it on.

Advice for Beginners

You know that feeling you get when you walk into Sephora and your palms start to sweat and your heart is beating really fast. Yup I used to get that all the time.
You feel everyone staring and think the Sephora worker is going to laugh at you if you ask a question. Relax. If you walk into the store with confidence and a list of items to buy you will be okay.
If anyone knows how difficult it is to put makeup on it is definitely me. It wasn't that long ago where I would leave the house with cheap eye shadow and crooked eyeliner.
Luckily the wonderful world of YouTube showed me the light.

First you need the essentials: Makeup brushes, foundation, eyeshadow primer, eyeshadow, moisturizer, lipstick, blush and mascara. It may seem like a lot but think of it as an outfit.
Jeans, shirt, bra, undies, socks etc.

I prefer to go to ULTA. You can get high end items like Urban Decay, Tarte, Lorac etc
and Drug Store items like Maybelline, L'Oreal, Cover Girl etc.
I also love going to Target to pick up my ELF Cosmetics. Many items between $1-$3.

Now the trick to finding the right colors for you is simple.
When testing foundations, swatch it on the inside of your wrist. That is the closest to your complexion. You don't want to try multiple products on your face. You can get bacteria and pimples that way. When testing lipstick, swatch it on the top of your hand. I would suggest get a daytime color like nude, mauve, pinks and a nightime color like red, plum, brown.

When you are sitting in front of your mirror think to yourself.
WHAT LOOK AM I GOING FOR TODAY? Do I want a soft everyday look or am I vamping it out today? Whatever you decide just always remember to not overdo it. You do not want to look like you got hit with a box of crayons. BLEND, BLEND, BLEND. I cannot stress that enough.

Now I like to do my eyes first. This so when you get eyeshadow fallout you can clean it up afterwards and do not have to worry about re-doing your foundation. Prime lids (this will keep your eyeshadow in place), apply eyeshadow, apply liner and last is mascara. Always apply moisturizer before the foundation. Foundation can dry out your skin and clog your pores. Daily skin care is a must. Last is lipstick. Some people line their lips with lip liner first so you can avoid lip bleeding
(when your lipstick starts to smear and you get these little lines around your lip).
If you choose to use lipliner make sure it is closest to the lipstick color as possible.

Remember to watch as many YouTube makeup tutorials as possible.
If it wasn't for those videos I would not be where I am today.
Remember...PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!

Stay Beautiful!!!!

How to Clean Makeup Brushes and Beauty Blenders

Hi There

There are millions of bacteria in all the surfaces you touch. In this germaphobic world, it is very common to carry hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes in your purse or keep them in your car or desk at work. Our face is prone to many different types of bacteria. Think about all the times you have touched your face. Now think about everything you touch throughout the day. Cell Phones, door knobs etc.  Bacteria can cause breakouts and an oily complexion. Would you take a shower with a dirty wash cloth? NO. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen someone's makeup brushes/tools thrown into a makeup bag completely filthy and dingy. The horror in my face shows it all!!

First thing I do is separate my dirty brushes/sponges from the clean ones. I use an old candle holder (wax removed) and after 1 or 2 uses I put the brush/sponge into the container. I have multiple brushes so i tend to wash them every 2 weeks.  Below is a step by step process. Hope it's helpful.

Happy Cleaning!!!

1. Lay a dry clean towel onto a flat surface (I use my dining table).

2. Gather all the brushes and tools and keep them in a container next to your sink.

3. Mix olive oil and dish detergent into a small bowl. I use a bar of detergent soap. Many people use shampoo.

4. Take the brush, dip it into the mixture and in a circular motion rub the brush onto the palm of your hand. Put under running water until clean.

5. Place on top of towel until dry. Repeat every 2 weeks.

How to Travel with Makeup

HOW TO TRAVEL WITH MAKEUP.....Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

What kind of trip is it?

First question...WHERE ARE YOU GOING? What you might need for a trip will depend on where you’re going, what you’re doing, and how long you’re going for etc.  For example, if you’re mostly going to be outdoors or around water, you won’t need much but if you were going to a more formal occasion like a dinner party or wedding, you might want a full arsenal of your favorites.  Weather can be a huge factor. Hot and humid weather will have you looking for your longer-lasting favorites.

What are you going to wear?

I like to decide what clothes I’m bringing first, and then I’ll assess what kind of makeup I’m likely to want to do with those clothes (plus, considering what I’ll be doing or where I’m going).  This helps me guide my choices and not bring everything and minimize bringing things I won’t use.  You can really plan out down to the last product, or you can simply come up with a rough outline, like whether you’ll wear mostly neutrals or you’ll need a more subdued lip color to pair with a really electric eye look you want to do.

Are you checking a bag, carrying on, or going by a less restrictive means of travel?

Depending on how you travel, you need to plan what you are going to bring. Remember if you are taking a train you will have to lug your makeup kit down the aisle (this always happens I take the Amtrak to NYC...there is never an available seat until the very last car!).  When flying with a carry-on, you’ll have to worry about meeting current liquid restrictions and fitting everything in a quart-sized bag, which can get challenging as it includes things like lotions, creams, gloss, mascara, foundation, and so on.  Another option is to buy smaller, empty travel containers.

How you travel may also determine how safely you need to pack your makeup, as checking a bag will require better padding and securing to minimize shifting in your luggage.  I like to put anything fragile sandwiched between softer items like towels, rather than sitting on the sides of luggage. You’ll want to avoid keeping too many glass containers next to each other as well.  I also like to contain liquids in plastic bags if they’re larger like shampoo or if I have several of them (so if one leaks, it’s not on your clothes).

SAFE TRAVELS!!!!

About The Blog

Welcome!!!!!

My name is Lindy and I am completely obsessed with Makeup.

My purpose for starting the Blog is to educate and share my passion for Makeup. I want the world to know that the artistry of Makeup is not just pretty colors on your face. Makeup is not to cover up, it is to enhance our beauty. It’s not all about pleasing others. When I wake up in the morning and get ready to start my day I do not do it for anyone other than myself. When you put your best face forward, your self-confidence and self esteem are enhanced. When you feel like you look better on the outside then you will feel better on the inside.

My journey began in January 2015 where a friend of mine was interested in ordering makeup online and asked me if I can order something so she could get the free shipping. Mind you I had no clue about makeup. The closest I had was a $1 store eye shadow palette which I rarely used.

So I agreed and found an Urban Decay Smokey Palette for $20. I got the palette in the mail and it came with instructions on how to create makeup looks. That worked for a few days but I still had problems with applying it correctly. A friend of mine suggested I go on YouTube and look up makeup tutorials on how other people use the Smokey palette. So I started watching a video on the palette which resulted to more videos on How to apply liner, how to blend, how to find the right foundation etc. Fast forward to present day I now have my own channel where I make my own YouTube tutorial videos and started a freelance MUA business.
